Spanish-English Translation and Interpreting, Minor

Program Description

The Minor in Spanish-English Translation and Interpreting first and foremost exposes students to the many different career paths in the language services industry and helps students develop competencies to successfully enter this industry. Allows students to focus on interpreting or translation, or pursue both. Explores specific fields in Spanish, analyzes how to design Spanish-English practice regimens for continuing, self-directed learning, and provides practice with industry-standard/cutting-edge software to help with translation and interpreting processes. Includes a language internship through which students apply their learning to projects and problems in the professional world.

Matriculation Requirements

  1. Complete ENGL 2010 Intermediate Academic Writing and 30 hours of college-level courses other than Spanish with a minimum GPA of 2.0
  2. Complete lower division Spanish courses (1010, 1020, 2010, and 202G) or receive the equivalent through experiential credit (does not apply to native speakers). 
  3. Admitted to a bachelor degree program at UVU.
